The Senate is scheduled to vote today on McDonald’s nomination. Gov. Malloy refuses to withdraw McDonald’s nomination, his trademark obstinance in tact. But he also made this remarkable statement: “If Senate Republicans choose to vote down an extremely qualified candidate for chief justice, and someone who also would be the first gay chief justice in the country, they should be held accountable.”
What does McDonald being the first anything have to do with such an appointment? One has to wonder if he is even comfortable with longtime friend Malloy constantly bringing it up, never mind trying to use it as a reason why he should get the gig. Malloy accuses Republicans of voting no simply due to McDonald's sexuality, but by appearing to believe it's the very reason it should happen - "being a first" - he is guilty of the same thing he's accusing them of.
