David Gilmour is undoubtedly a rock icon — as an integral part of Pink Floyd with a longtime solo career, his contributions to music are paramount. On Thursday, October 16th the rocker was celebrated during the exclusive iHeartRadio ICONS with David Gilmour where he talked about The Luck And Strange Concert albums and more with iHeartRadio's Jim Kerr.

The Luck And Strange Concerts and Live At The Circus Maximus, Rome capture the essence of his triumphant 2024 "Luck and Strange" Tour, celebrating his fifth solo album, which topped charts worldwide. The sold-out tour spanned 23 shows across Europe and the U.S., including spectacular performances at Rome’s Circus Maximus, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Los Angeles’s Hollywood Bowl, and New York’s Madison Square Garden.

During his iHeartRadio ICONS event, fans heard songs including "Luck and Strange," "Breathe," "Time," "Between Two Points," "Coming Back to Life," "Wish You Were Here," and "Comfortably Numb."

Gilmour explained that when choosing what songs to include on The Luck And Strange Concerts, "We had got a big list of songs which included all of the songs from the new album, which we were hoping we could do. But the idea of imposing all new material to people is a bit daunting. But we did anyway in the end, and quite a few of the songs that people are kind of expecting us to do and longing to hear older songs. I didn't want to remove that from people."

Before Luck and Strange, Gilmour's previous album Rattle That Lock was released in 2015 — but it sounds like fans won't have to wait another nine years to hear a new album from him. He shared, "That's what I've promised. Let's hope I can stick to it." He added of the progress of the project, "I have a lot of quarter formed, half-formed material, songs, tunes, melodies, compositions, whatever you want to call 'em these days. I'm hesitant to call them songs until they've got words."

The concert film Live At The Circus Maximus, Rome, directed by Gavin Elder, debuted globally in cinemas and IMAX on September 17th, with home releases following on October 17th. The companion live album, The Luck And Strange Concerts, features 23 tracks blending Gilmour’s new material with timeless Pink Floyd classics. With deluxe editions offering immersive 5.1 and Atmos mixes and a 120-page photo book by Polly Samson, both releases serve as the definitive record of Gilmour’s masterful return to the stage.

On why he chose Rom, Italy for his concert film, Gilmour explained, "Well, it's Italy, it's Rome, it's beautiful venues. These places have an atmosphere to them, which can't help but be contagious. The Circus Maximus, like the Amphitheater in Pompeii are just magical places. You feel the feet of people walking there over millennia has a spiritual heir to it."
