UCONN Men Win; Hamden Wins SCC Tourn Championship Thu Boys BB Hand/Guilford

The UCONN Men's Basketball Team defeated Providence 87-69 Wednesday night, avenging an earlier season loss to the Friars. Jordan Hawkins had 20 points for the Huskies.

Wednesday's Broadcast - Hamden vs. Sacred Heart Academy III for the SCC Tournament Championship - Hamden had won the previous 2 meetings over SHA - both in Overtime. There would be no OT tonight. The Green Dragons jumped out to a 14-9 lead after the 1st Quarter, increased it to 28-15 at Halftime. Hamden led by as many as 23 points in the 2nd Half, only to see the Sharks fight back to within 7 points, but Hamden held to win 70-57 and claim the SCC Tournament Championship. Alana Philpotts led Hamden with 21 points, Gianna Donnarummo had 20 points, Leah Philpotts had 11 points and Kamora Moore had 10 points, Thailyn Geter and Gianna Robert were both great rebounding the ball as well. Hamden is 23-0.

Emma Kirck led SHA with 20 points, Lyla D'Errico had 17 points and Morgan Miller added 11 points for the Sharks.

Both teams will now head to the CIAC State Tournament.
