George DeMaio Jr., better known as "The Coach", was born and raised in West Haven, Ct. Coach attended West Haven High School, where he lettered in basketball & baseball and was named Athlete of the Year in 1966. He proceeded on to Southern Connecticut State University, where he helped found the University radio station. He graduated in 1970 with a BS in Education and received his Masters Degree from SCSU in 1977.
In 1983, he was hired by KC101 and WAVZ as their Sports Director. It was here that he started his immense coverage of high school sports. He has received numerous awards including induction to the CT. Scholastic and Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame, the CT. Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, and the CT. High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The Coach continues to cover high school sports and gives them the coverage they richly deserve.The Coach resides in West Haven with his wife Brenda. He has 2 sons, Matthew, and his wife Debbie & their daughter Rebecca living in Old Saybrook and Jeffrey, and his wife Cory & their sons, Samuel and Nathan living in Wallingford.
