THE CADETS STORM BACK TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP!

In one of the wildest games of the this, or possibly any season in quite some time, St Joseph wages a furious comeback after being down 28-7 early in the 3rd qtr to defeat top- seeded Ansonia 42-36 to win the Class S Championship for the 13th time in their school's history.

However the final score doesn't begin to tell the story.

St Joseph got off to a fast start after Ansonia botched an early punt. The turnover would lead to a David Summers TD pass to Philip Pasmeg to take an early 7-0 lead. Ansonia would score 22 unanswered points, capped by Ansonia senior running back Markell Dobbs(243 rushing yds 3TD's) to end the 1st half taking a 22-7 lead. With the Chargers receiving the ball to start the 2nd half Senior QB Justin Lopez would extend the lead to 28-7 on a scramble that capped a 28-0 run that left St. Joseph all but dead.

Then Cadets would mount a comeback for the ages!

Staring down the business end of a blowout in the state championship game, St. Joseph would answer Ansonia's 28 pt run with a 28pt run of their own highlighted by 70 yard pitch and catch from David Summers to Philip Pasmeg for the 2nd time in the game. Ansonia Sophomore Jaden Shirden would cap the furious run with a long TD run that would give St Joseph a 35-28. Their first lead since early in the 1st qtr. Ansonia's Markell Dobbs' 75 yard TD run would give Ansonia a brief 36-35 lead until St. Joe's David Summers hit Jared Mallozzi with his 5th TD pass of the night with just under six minutes to play to giving the Cadets a 42-36 lead that would seal their 1st title since 2014.
