Oscar Nominations Are In: It's A Toss-Up!

Todd Phillips’ “Joker" is leading with 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture, best director for Phillips and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix.

Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Sam Mendes’ “1917” follow close behind with 10 nods a piece. These films, along with “Ford v Ferrari,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story” and “Parasite” will compete for best picture.

As WTNH's "At The Movies" guy, and someone with a pretty solid batting average as far as predicting the Oscars (I used to write my predictions out on notebook paper as a kid and put them up on the fridge at home), here are my thoughts: Phoenix WILL win, and Renee Zellweger will for her tour de force as Judy Garland in the biopic "Judy." Brad Pitt will score the Best Supporting Actor trophy (deservedly so), but might have had his work cut out for him if Christian Bale got a nod in the same category for his brilliant turn in "Ford vs Ferrari." Florence Pugh could be an upset in the Supporting Actress category, where Laura Dern just won a Golden Globe and is nominated here. Both are fantastic. The rest of it all goes to "1917," save for Best Screenplay, which Tarantino will take. Again.
