Friendly’s has shuttered six more restaurants around the Northeast, including five in New England, company officials said. An empty one in Middletown might wind up being a WaWa. West Haven might be getting real lucky. The once-popular Saw Mill Road location, long since vacant, could be come a Stewart’s All American — as in Stewart’s Root Beer. They've signed a lease to open its first Connecticut restaurant in the former Friendly’s that more recently, and fairly briefly, was the A-1 Diner.
But Frontage Road in East Haven remains empty, and has been a good long time. What would you like to see pop in there? Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers? In-N-Out Burger? A good ol' Jack-In-The-Box? Surely not a WaWa.
