John Carlson accepted a last-minute nomination at a GOP convention Thursday night to run for the city’s highest office. The last Republican mayor, William C. Celentano, left office in 1953. The GOP last fielded a mayoral candidate in 2007 with H. Richter Elser, who lost in every part of town to incumbent Democrat John DeStefano. But Justin Elicker is no John DeStefano.
