Pizza War Claims Another Victim - This Time In New Haven

An Elm City institution has closed its doors for good. Not exactly shocking news these days but it is when it's a pizza joint! This IS New Haven, after all; pizza is our claim to fame. After more than 50 years in business, Wall Street Pizza & Restaurant - formerly known as Naples Pizza - closed. Fact is, with the historic joints - from Pepe's to even Grand Apizza - franching out (see what I did there?), it makes it that much more difficult on the "one and done" places. No matter how long they've been there. But at the same time, it's a market that's become increasingly competitive, with artisan pies all the rage. This, too, plays a role.

Here are some other pizza places, from all over Connecticut:

Bertucci's Orange. Good pies, too. Two other locations also closed - in Manchester and Southington.

Slyce Hamden

Pete’s New Haven Apizza Clarendon. Evidently a staple, and the eatery was just as abrupt as Wall Street, and on the very same weekend!

Marino’s A West Haven gem for the past 16 years. (I mean, it's no Zuppardi's, but still.)

Ah-Beetz Came and went in New in the blink of an eye. Rumors swirled of the rent being astronomical. Despite the gimmicky name, served up legit New Haven pizza.

Brunello's One of the tastiest pizzas I've ever eaten. From the same wonderful family that brings us P&M Deli in Branford, Brunello's came and went far too quickly. The same fate best not befall what is now - handily - the best pizza one can get, Coal & Daisies (also Branford).
