Dr. Hook Dead At 81

Sawyer’s agent Mark Lyman announced that the guitarist/vocalist died in his sleep in Daytona Beach, Florida. A cause of death was not given, but Lyman had been battling a brief illness.

Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show had several top 10 hits in the 1970s, including “The Cover of Rolling Stone,” “When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman," “Only Sixteen” and “Sexy Eyes.” Many of their songs were written or co-written by poet Shel Silverstein and featured in the 1971 movie “Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?”

My particular favorite Dr. Hook tune - ironically covered here by one of my favorite bands, Bon Jovi - is "Sylvia's Mother," a Top 10 hit for the band.
