Micah Welintukonis, candidate for governor, is a Connecticut resident, Army veteran, and public servant. He served in the United States Army in Kosovo during his first stint of active duty in the 1990s. Later, as a member of the Connecticut National Guard, he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, then served in Afghanistan where he was severely injured by a suicide bomb attack in 2012.
