As quickly as former FBI head James Comey disclosed that President Trump had said he "wanted and expected loyalty" upon first meeting with him the right responded with a story about former defense secretary Robert Gates saying pretty much the same thing about his first meeting with Obama. In this clip, which I've watched repeatedly, Gates clearly states offering his loyalty - it not being asked of him - but that sticking point ultimately doesn't matter; when did loyalty become a bad word?
