KIM’S SURPRISE: Pompeo ‘Wasn’t Supposed to Meet’ North Korean Dictator
President Trump confirmed Thursday afternoon that CIA director Mike Pompeo wasn’t scheduled to meet North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un during his secret visit to Asia; adding the two men spoke “for over an hour” and had a “great meeting.”
The President was speaking with reporters at the White House when he revealed details of Pompeo’s “surprise” trip, saying “it was more than a hello.”
“Mike Pompeo did go there. He wasn’t supposed to meet with Kim Jong Un but he did. He, you know, they arranged actually while he was there to say hello. We have incredible pictures of the two talking and meeting, which I would love to release if we can,” Trump told Fox News Thursday morning.
“It was more than hello. They got along. They were with each other more than an hour. They spoke. He also spoke with his counterparts in North Korea. They had a great meeting. He then left. It was very, very secret. It was very quiet,” Trump added.
The President’s comments come just weeks before he’s set to meet Kim Jong Un at an undetermined location; the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the US and North Korea in history.
