Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan are discussing tensions with Iran. Speaking today on Capitol Hill, Pompeo said they briefed both members of the House and Senate about deterring Iran. Both administration officials say they agreed to be "more communicative" with the American public about threats in the Middle East. Shanahan says the Defense Department's biggest focus at this point is to prevent "Iranian miscalculation" and added "this is about deterrence, not war."
