Milford Blanks New Haven on Wootton 1 Hitter Spring Football in Lvy League

It felt so good to go and watch a baseball game Wednesday night. I made a solo trip to Milford to take in New Haven and Milford on the opening night of the Conn. Elite Baseball Association.

Overall, not a bad game for opening night. Not many hits, lots of strikeouts and plenty of walks.

Milford won the game blanking New Haven 7-0 behind the great pitching of Matthew Wootton. Wootton allowed only 1 hit, an infield single, and struck out 16 for the win. He did walk 5 and hit a batter.

Wootton and 3 New Haven pitchers combined for 29 strikeouts, 13 walks and 2 hit batsman. Milford did manage 5 hits. Richard Carino had a double and sac fly and Calvin Boyd had 2 hits and a run scored for Milford.

It was the only game played Wednesday night as Madison at Wallingford and Orange at West Haven were postponed.

In other news:

Jamelle Elliott has been named a permanent assistant coach for the UCONN Women's Basketball team by Geno Auriemma. It's Elliott's 2nd stint at UCONN as an assistant. She was previously on the staff from 1998-2009. She was also the head coach at Cincinnati from 2009-2018.

The NFL is shortening the preseason from 4 games to 2 games.

The Ivy League is considering having football in the Spring. Ivy League presidents met Tuesday to discuss the matter. The options would be to play football in the Spring or play a conference only 7 game schedule in the Fall starting in late September. Generally, the Ivy League plays a 10 game schedule. A final decision will be rendered next week.

The CTEBA schedule for Thursday(19u) : New Haven at Milford, Wallingford at Madison, East Haven at Branford, Orange at West Haven(Doubleheader); the 17u schedule: Hamden at Shelton, Orange at Branford

I will be out and about again Thursday watching baseball - lots of choices - but something tells me Willy will want to go and he likes staying close to home - hmmm......... wonder where he wants to go
