I made a solo trip to Morse Park in West Haven on Thursday night to see a District 4 Baseball Game between the Annex and West Haven. This was a Pool Play game. But what a game! You have to love Little League Baseball - you just never know what can happen.
West Haven jumped out to a 6-0 lead, thanks to a Grand Slam Home Run from Dylan Supan and a Home Run from Nick Hunkele. Game over - hardly. Just getting started. Annex scored 2 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th to tie the game at 6-6, 3 in the bottom of the 5th to take a 9-6 lead.
But West Haven was not done yet. West Haven scored 3 runs with 2 outs to tie the game at 9-9. Ben Carfora singled in the tying run.
But Annex(the Home Team in the game), sent their fans home happy as Michael Goodwin belted a walk off 3 run Home Run in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Annex a 12-9 victory. Goodwin also had a single and double and finished with 6 rbis. Yaddy Gonzalez and Adrian Padilla also homered and Quinn Colon had a single and rbi as well for the Annex. Both teams are 2-2 in Pool Play.
A fantastic game played at the Park where I called home for my Little League career. Ironically, my sons played in the Annex Little League, where I coached them and later umpired there.
In Zone 2 Legion Play
Stratford 9 Milford 0 Christian Bradley got the win and had 2 hits. Richard Starkey had 2 hits and 2 rbis for Stratford.
Branford and New Haven played to a 5-5 tie suspended after 10 innings because of darkness.
East Haven 2 Hamden 1 Jake Ferrara got the win. Tyler Leone drove in both EH runs. Mike Ferrett had the Hamden rbi.
North Haven and Orange split a Doubleheader. Orange won the 1st game 7-4. Alec Smith had a double and 2 rbis for Orange. Jack Nolan scored the go ahead run on a fielder's choice. Jared Smith was the winning pitcher.
North Haven won Game 2 9-3.

A great finish is about to unfold as the Legion regular season comes to a close.
As for Little League, the wildness has just begun.
