It's Championship Weekend; Friday's Broadcast: Softball - Class S Title - An All NVL Affair

Championship weekend is upon us in Softball and Baseball. Two Championship Games will be played on Friday night.

My Friday night Broadcast will be the Class S Softball Championship - an all NVL affair - St. Paul Catholic vs. Holy Cross. St. Paul Catholic is the #9 seed, Holy Cross the #2 seed.

Holy Cross defeated St. Paul 5-3 during the regular season.

Air time is 6:55pm on ESPNradio1300, ESPNradio1300.com & iheartradio.

In Baseball, the Class M Title is up for grabs on Friday night - Lewis Mills vs. Waterford.

Thursday's Broadcasts were the Softball Class L Semifinals.

In Game 1, Joel Barlow defeated Fitch 6-5, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Taylor Macchia drove in the game winning run for Barlow. Kristin Acocella had 3 hits, including a Home Run which tied the game. Catie Boudiette added 2 hits and an rbi for Barlow.

Cassie Woods had 2 hits and 2 rbis for Fitch.

In Game 2, Torrington defeated #1 seed Pomperaug 5-1. Ali DuBois was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits and had 13 strikeouts, including 8 in a row to start the game!

Mariah Herczeg had 2 hits and 3 rbis for Torrington.

Laurel Williams drove in the Pomperaug run with an rbi single.

In the Class LL Softball Semifinals

Southington defeated #1 seed Cheshire 6-2 while Trumbull beat Stamford 3-0.

So through all the rain and bad weather, we have perservered and have made it to Championship Weekend. It is an exciting weekend - Champions will be crowned - and it will mark an end to another great year of high school sports. 

Ah - but before you know it - Fall will arrive and footballs will be flying through the air.

Trust me, though, I'm not rushing it - it will be here soon enough.
