Fidelco Dog Days of Summer 2022

Listen below to Renee's interview with Gianna Panullo, Manager of Events & Volunteer at Fidelco as they talk about the upcoming summer programs.

Fidelco’s Dog Days of Summer Children’s Program is back and in-person for 2022!

This popular program located at Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation’s Bloomfield, CT campus offers weeklong, half-day sessions for children ages 8 to 11. Kids will learn from Fidelco staff members and clients about German Shepherd guide dogs and the positive impact they have on the lives of their partners who are blind.

Our program is hands-on; children work with dogs and puppies as young as 8 weeks old. They’ll learn how to care for pups, the stages of their development, and the guide dog training process. “Blindfold walks” offer an opportunity to experience working with a guide dog and understanding the everyday challenges people who are blind encounter.

Children will also learn about other breeds and their origins, canine development, puppy raising, basic dog training, health care, grooming, and first aid. They’ll learn about the responsibilities of dog ownership by working in our kennel and assisting with feeding and cleaning.

Other areas of focus include exposure to different types of working dogs through visits from law enforcement and search-and-rescue agencies, discussion of dog-related career opportunities, and more!
