Dr. Hook Dead At 81

Sawyer’s agent Mark Lyman announced that the guitarist/vocalist died in his sleep in Daytona Beach, Florida. A cause of death was not given, but Lyman had been battling a brief illness.

Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show had several top 10 hits in the 1970s, including ā€œThe Cover of Rolling Stone,ā€ ā€œWhen You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman," ā€œOnly Sixteenā€ and ā€œSexy Eyes.ā€ Many of their songs were written or co-written by poet Shel Silverstein and featured in the 1971 movie ā€œWho Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?ā€

My particular favorite Dr. Hook tune - ironically covered here by one of my favorite bands, Bon Jovi - is "Sylvia's Mother," a Top 10 hit for the band.
