Rachel Mitchell, the Arizona prosecutor handpicked by Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee to question the accuser of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, avoided coming out swinging Thursday, opting instead to display a considerate, businesslike manner befitting an experienced sex crimes prosecutor.
Mitchell, who successfully prosecuted a former Catholic priest on child molestation charges in 2005, sought from the outset to put Christine Blasey Ford - who vacillated from trembling and giddy - at ease.
In the coming days Democrats, and women in particular, will be vicious with regard to her nonetheless.
