Powerful Quake Hits Close To Mexico City

Mexico City is feeling the effects of a powerful earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 7.1 and hit about 75 miles south of Mexico City.  (September 19).

The governor of Morelos, which is a state south of Mexico City, said that at least 42 people have died. Rescue operations are underway across the city to look for survivors trapped under collapsed buildings.

People are posting videos of the panic and damage that the quake caused.  One video shows the facade of a building crashing to the ground.

The earthquake happened exactly 32 years after an 8.0 magnitude decimated the city, causing massive damage and killing over 5,000 people, and just weeks after an 8.1 magnitude quake killed 58 people.
